    Dad's Paternity Leave

My first month on leave is over and it'd been great. The first few weeks was sort of like vacation. Emily was awesome and seemed to take the transition well. Then she threw us a curve ball and sort of freaked out for a couple of weeks. She wasn't eating or sleeping very well. She was too tired to eat and too hungry to sleep. Boy.

In late January we decided to teach Emily how to sleep. There's a popular but somewhat controversial sleep training methor where you let the baby cry. We did this. It really only took a few days for Emily to get into the swing of things. Now she's sleeping great. Bedtime is between 7:30 and 8 pm and she'll sleep until 7 am without waking or fussing. Life is much better alround.

This month Emily has started solid foods (rice cereal, peas, and carrots). She's found her tongue and spits and babbles when she's happy. She sits up unassisted and rarely falls over.

We start daycare in a couple of weeks so that might be a bit tough.

    We're all happy and healthy.

    Christmas Trip Report

We're back from spending 10 days in Toronto and area for Christmas. We had a good trip and Matt's family got to see Baby Emily for the first time. We spend a few days in Port Elgin and Kincardine. Emily had jet lag pretty bad and generally didn't sleep well the entire trip.

Emily is a social butterfly. She went from person to person all trip and never complained. The kids liked to play with her too.

On boxing day we had Matt's entire family crashing at brother Steve's place. Steve and Ang were troopers hosting 5 families plus Mom. His big house felt pretty small for a few days.

We've posted new pictures so enjoy.

    Emily says "Mama"

It may have been an accident, but I think Emily said "Mama" today (of course, she was crying).  What a sweetie!

Emily sleeps for 13 hours straight!

I can't believe it.  We had to get up several times to check on her (to see if she was breathing), so Mommy and Daddy didn't get as much good sleep.

Emily sleeps for 8 hours straight!

Believe it or not, little Emily decided to sleep for 8 hours straight on Sunday night.  I'm not sure if it was the Canadian Thanksgiving celebration we were at, or what, but she was pooped.  To top it off, she's done it now for three nights in a row.  Wish us much continued luck in this department.  We certainly have our fingers crossed.

    Emily rolls over

Emily rolled over for the first time this week. She first did it on Monday for Mommy. During tummy time she rolled from her tummy to her back. She rolled over for Daddy on Tuesday morning and then again on Friday morning... twice. She gets pretty tired from all this. For her next trick we're working on rolling over from back to front.
